My past projects include components of planning, implementation, evaluation, and communications for non-governmental and governmental organizations. Some examples of my projects are listed below.
Sensible Sanitation in North America for Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human – Current
I organized an official visit for the president of the World Toilet Organization, and created a detailed press kit for him with news features like this Willamette Weekly interview. I presented “Advocating Sensible Sanitation in North America: What Works” and hosted a liveblog at the World Toilet Summit in South Africa. I also presented “When Sensible Sanitation is Waterless Sanitation: Real-World Ideas” at a university panel. I contributed content to the website. I assisted a transition team in 501c3 incorporation, and currently serve as a board member.
Online Course on Global Water and Sanitation Justice for University of California – 2016 to 2017
I worked with a team of university professors and a doctoral candidate to develop an online course on global water and sanitation justice. We developed a series of weekly modules that included multi-media learning components, and I specifically constructed two modules covering “human rights to water and sanitation” and “climate justice.” I also taught this course for two quarters. I organized materials to facilitate student learning, moderated forum posts, held weekly virtual office hours, graded student written assignments, and updated the Canvas website.
United Nations UNFPA Working Group for UN Graduate Study Programme – 2013
I joined forces with a team to create a project proposal for the United Nations Population Fund. Our working paper “Reducing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence among Adolescents in Post-Emergency Situation in Haiti” was drafted by graduate students in fields of public policy, sociology, anthropology, economics, and gender studies. It was necessary to complete a background analysis of the situation, examine legal and institutional frameworks, and develop a program strategy (e.g. goals, objectives, and activities) and evaluation plan.
Renewable Energy Technology Program for Columbia Gorge Community College – 2011 to 2012
I was an academic advisor for a renewable energy program at a community college. I re-developed and implemented a communications plan. We worked with different vendors to create new outreach materials including short promotional videos, brochures, student profile features, and a virtual tour. I assisted a student club in hosting a renewable energy film festival, acquiring film rights, and promoting the festival in the community.
Neighborhood Groundwater Network for Oregon Department of Water Resources – 2008 to 2009
This was a pilot initiative for citizen science groundwater measurement and awareness in Oregon. It was a collaborative effort between a state agency and Oregon Sea Grant. I created a needs assessment for the program, developed a program plan, outlined a program time-line, developed outreach materials including two presentations, implemented the program, and evaluated the program.
